About

RSCEmulation is a Classic private server founded by Kryptix and GaWdZ on 24th August, 2009.

The source code originally started life as RSCDaemon, a project that eXemplar, Sean and Philodespotos contributed to but unfortunately never got to a state that would be considered playable. Reines decided to picked up where they left off and turned it into an actual private server simular to RSCEmulation. After a good run JAGeX shut RSCDaemon down, the source code got leaked and mass private servers were born. Since then the source code has been drastically modified, improved and developed further to turn it into what you know as RSCEmulation.

RSCEmulation is proud to be hosted by Staminus Communications, who have been the leader in DDoS mitigation services and high bandwidth dedicated server hosting solutions for nearly a decade. Their proprietary network-based DDoS protection (SecurePort) was developed in-house and provides maximum security, reliability, and versatility to their customers. Staminus' attack protection is able of providing security up to 20gB/s.

Staminus

Our server is a Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 with 4gB of RAM hosted on a 100mB/s connection based in Southern California, USA. We have been with Staminus since 27th September, 2009.

RSCEmulation is a completely non-profit project run by dedicated individuals who simply love Classic and don't want it to die. JAGeX ditched a great game that thousands of players still want to play. The monthly outgoings required to keep RSCEmulation online is generated through players subscribing and advertisments.

Administrators

Administrators generally own and run RSCEmulation. It's their responsibility to keep everything under control as well as recruiting the other staff. They update, maintain and develop the server, game, database and website. You should only contact an administrator if other staff members ask you to as they're normally busy.

Player Moderatorss

Player Moderators are basically junior moderators. They have less power but enough to deal with almost all in-game situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

There's many questions new (and old) players will want to ask so instead of us having to answer them over and over again, we felt it would be easier to list the most common questions right here. Simply click the question to show the answer. If your question isn't answered here or you think there's a question that should be here please post a new topic in our Support section.

What does subscribing mean?

RSCEmulation costs a lot to keep online and the only way we can afford the monthly outgoings is to allow players to donate for extra benefits. Subscribing costs £4.50 GBP (which currently converts to $6.83 USD or €4.96 EUR) per month and is completely optional.

Why should I subscribe?

Subscribes get various features that non-subscribers don't, such as a faster XP rate, slower fatigue, a (optional) larger client and so on. Another great reason to subscribe is that you can sell Subscription Cards to other players for in-game GP/items to help you earn money. The most important reason though is that by purchasing Subscription Card(s) you help keep RSCEmulation alive.

What is the XP rate?

The XP rate is set at 10x the original RSC rate when you're out of the wilderness and 15x when you're in the wilderness. This increases to 15x and 20x if your account is subscribed.

Are there any rules?

Yes, you should head over to the Rules page and make sure you understand them before doing anything else otherwise you risk being banned.

Who runs RSCEmulation?

You can find a full staff list on this very page.

Are there any in-game commands that players can use?

Yes, head over to our Commands page for the complete list.

I accidentally gained some unwanted XP, can I get it reset?

If you have a combat stat that is level-30 or under you can reset it back to level-1 (0 XP) by speaking to the Subscription Vendor behind Edgeville bank. The cost is one Subscription Card per reset. There is absolutely no exceptions.

Do you have a Ventrilo server?

We most certainly do. You can find the connection details on the Ventrilo page.

Do you have a IRC channel?

Yes, you can either connect using your own IRC client or use our webclient on the IRC page.

I'm new to Classic, how can I learn more about it?

We recommend new players visit Tip.It's Classic Guide before playing as it can be very confusing if you haven't ever seen or played Classic before.

I've never played a private server before, how do I get started?

After you have registered an account for the website you then need to head over to Character Management to create your in-game character. You will then need to click Play RSCEmulation for instructions on installing the client which is what you will use to login and play RSCEmulation.

I love RSCEmulation, is there anything I can do to help?

We really, really need players to subscribe so that's honestly the most helpful thing, but other than that voting for RSCEmulation is also another massive help as it brings more and more new players in. Generally, anything you can think of to help spread the word would help us a lot. Thank you.

How can I become staff?

Staff are generally hand picked individuals that have shown true dedication towards RSCEmulation. They must be trustworthy, respectful, responsible, mature, unbias, well-spoken and active.

What should I do if I see someone breaking a rule or advertising another private server?

Firstly you should press F12 to save a screenshot so we can use this as evidence. If you're sure they're a breaking a rule simply type ::STAFF and then PM a staff member.

Can I donate for items or stats?

No, we have seen other servers have to wipe their database over and over again because of their economy being ruined due to selling items for real-life money, there's no-way we're going to let that happen to RSCEmulation.

Why do people play RSCEmulation instead of the real Classic?

Classic was given up on many years ago and people simply don't have the time, patience or desire to spend 2-3 years creating a high-level character. It's a lot easier to login to RSCEmulation where there's more players and a much faster XP rate so they can enjoy the good things about Classic without all the bad bits. We also have a lot of subtle improvements to make the game experience even better. After playing RSCEmulation for a length of time you will wonder how you ever managed to play the original. :)

Is RSCEmulation going to close any time soon?

Whilst we cannot promise that we will be here forever, you have our word that we will do everything we possibly can to keep RSCEmulation up and running for as long as we can. We care a lot about RSCEmulation and won't be going down without a fight.

Help! I cannot connect, is the server down?

Occasionally, although very rarely, the server will be down due to unforeseen circumstances out of our control. We will try to get everything back up and running as quickly as possible but we strongly advise players to become a fan on Facebook, follow us on Twitter as well as idle in IRC so we can keep you updated if there is any downtime.

What's the difference between F2P wilderness and P2P wilderness?

Unless you played Classic when it was in its peak this won't make a lot of sense to you. Classic used to have F2P servers for players who didn't purchase a membership and P2P servers for paying members. When you became a member it would open up a whole new experience including new weapons, new armour, new food, new spells and so on. However, a lot of people preffered player-killing on F2P as it took more skill and was generally a lot more enjoyable which is why RSCEmulation's wilderness is F2P most of the time. This means you cannot use any P2P weapons, armour, food or spells whilst the wilderness is F2P. You can type ::WILDERNESS to see whether the wilderness is currenly F2P or P2P although normally it's F2P throughout the week and P2P on the weekend.

Is it possible to transfer a character to another account?

Yes, after you have logged in to your account you can navigate to Character Management which will allow you to transfer a character to another account for one Subscription Card. All transfers are logged and selling characters is forbidden.

Can I hide my character from the Highscores?

Yes, after you have logged in to your account you can navigate to Character Management which will allow you to hide each individual character from the Highscores and anywhere else where your stats are publicly available.

I've registered but it still says invalid password when trying to login!

This is probably because although you have registered an account you probably haven't created a character. You can create up to 10 characters per account and they will all share the same bank account.

Help, it says my character is already logged in!

You can only login to one character per account. If you want to login to more than one character you will need to register another account and then create a character on your new account. If you're not already logged in then either the server hasn't logged you out yet (try again in 60 seconds) or someone knows your password. If it's the latter we suggest you change both your account password(s) and character password(s) before contacting a staff member.
